NEW DELHI: A week after the medical entrance exam paper leak, the CBSE seems to be gearing up for some tough talk on the issue. Apart from searching to find the "black sheep" within the organisation, the Board will also re-evaluate the mode of conducting entrance exams.
"Patna, Ranchi, Bokaro, Lucknow and Nagpur are five places where the question paper for the AIPMT could have been first leaked," said a senior CBSE official.
Authorities are, however, mum over why they suspect the leakage could have taken place from one of the five cities.
"The Board will not let anything affect the career of thousands of students," said CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly.
An internal review committee has been formed to re-examine the manner in which entrance exams have been conducted over the years. Apart from analysing probable weak links in the examination chain, the committee will also recommend alternative methods of conducting entrance tests. A report is likely to be submitted in two months.
Alternative methods being considered include conducting exams through the Internet and preparing multiple sets for different zones. The e-option, however, is not being seen as universally feasible, as net facilities may not be available at centres located in remote areas.
"One suggestion being discussed is dividing the country into different zones and preparing different question papers. If a leakage ever occurs, it will be checked within that zone," said Ganguly.
While police investigate the case, there seems to be a growing view at that names of students involved should be revealed to the Board. Officials feel a firm stand against those willing to buy a question paper is the only way to check leakages.
